For transportation information or to schedule a ride,
call MASS at 1-815-539-7700
When possible, please call the MASS office at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride. This will allow you a better chance to secure the time needed. A donation is suggested for this service, and no one age 60 or over will be refused a ride due to inability to pay.
MASS does offer special transportation trips with volunteer drivers, available to seniors 60 years or older for these ‘out-of-area’ medical appointments Monday through Friday.*
*There is a suggested donation for this service and it is advisable to call at least a week in advance to schedule a volunteer driver.

Ride certificates are available for our transportation services throughout MASS’ entire service area. This would make an ideal gift for anyone who uses the van, or for someone who might be thinking about it! Contact the MASS office at 815-539-7700 for more information.
Regularly Scheduled Van Transportation
Free hearing screenings are conducted at the Mendota Civic Center every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hearing aid batteries are available at the MASS office. Batteries are $6.95 for a pack of six. Used batteries are collected as well as the old fashioned “over the ear” hearing aids which are refurbished and given to clients who are unable to afford new ones. These items can also be dropped off at MASS.
MASS is hosting Coffee with a Cop quarterly instead of monthly. This is your chance to sit down 1 on 1 with Chief Smith and discuss concerns or issues that are important to you. In a relaxed and neutral area, it is a personal conversation that is as important to the officer as it is to you. Chief Smith will join us on April 12th from 9-10 AM. Stop in for a cup of coffee, a snack and your chance to talk with Mendota Police.
MASS is offering a Rules of the Road Driver’s Review Course on Monday, February 26, 2018 in the Feik Senior Parlor at the Mendota Civic Center beginning at 9:30 AM. The course is free to everyone of any age. This course is designed to assist participants in preparing for the driving examination. Please call: 815-539-7700 to register.
The next Rules of the Road Review Course will be on Monday, June 25, 2018.
We invite you to join us for our monthly potlucks. The potluck times are listed below. Please bring your table service and a dish to pass. MASS supplies the meat dish and drinks. Remember, if you don’t have time to make a dish to pass you can always put a donation in the basket.

Movie Matinees at Graves Hume Library
MASS is partnering with Graves Hume Public Library in Mendota to offer you free Movies! The movie matinee is offered on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:00 PM at the Library. Refreshments will be provided. Upcoming movies are:
Wednesday, February 28th - ‘Wild Oats’ After mistakenly receiving a large sum money, a woman (Shirley MacLaine) and her best friend (Jessica Lange) travel to the Canary Islands for a fun filled vacation.
Wednesday, March 28th - ‘Mr. Poppers Penguin’s’ Starring Jim Carrey, the life of a business man begins to unravel after he inherits six penguins.
Wednesday, April 25th - ‘Night at the Museum, Secret of the Tomb’ When the exhibits at New York's Natural History Museum start behaving strangely, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) the director of nighttime operations, must find out the cause. Robin Williams & Ricky Gervais also star in this comedy/adventure.
AARP Smart Driver Program
(Defensive Driving Course)
The AARP Driver Safety Program is a classroom driver refresher course designed especially for drivers age 50 and over. This program aims to help community members retain their driving competency, learn driving strategies, understand the effects of aging on driving, reduce the chance of having an accident and know when to retire from driving. At completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate that can be presented to their automobile insurance holder that may entitle them to a discount. There is a $15 fee for AARP members (with AARP membership card) and $20 fee for non-members; on the first day of class and payable to AARP for the instruction book and materials. Please arrive 15 minutes early the first day of class. This is a 2 day course, March 12th & 13th from 8:30 to 12:30 at MASS. Please call MASS at 815-539-7700 to register.
Community Bingo is held at MASS the first Monday of the month at 2:00 PM. Prizes are awarded to game winners, and anyone age 18 or older is welcome to play. Come out & join in on the fun! Refreshments are served.
A non-denominational Bible study group meets each week in the Feik Senior Parlor at the Mendota Civic Center. The study is held every Thursday at 1:30 PM and is led by Pastor Kent Svendsen from First United Methodist Church. There is no book to buy, but please bring a Bible. All are welcome to attend.
Chase those winter blues away. Come join the fun and learn a new game. Rummikub is a combination of Rummy and Mahjong. Lessons will be held February 13th and 20th at 1:30 PM in the Senior Center.
Spring Wii Bowling League
We will have an organizational meeting on Tuesday March 13th at 1:30 PM. We will be putting together teams, or make up a team of your own and join us. If you are interested in bowling but have never played, come any Tuesday at 1:30 PM and we will be glad to teach you.
April is National Social Security Month
Megan from the Peru Social Security office will be at MASS on April 24th ~ 10 AM – Noon for a ‘my Social Security’ enrollment event.
